(Japanese) Chopstick Manners

Hello! How are you doing, everyone? Are you enjoying the winter vacation? As for me, I am working a part-time job.     Today, I will write about Japanese chopstick manners. I hope it will help you explain chopstick manners to foreigners. Before we get to the main topic, I must say this: I am not from Hiroshima, so my manners might differ from yours.     First of all, I will tell you how you use chopsticks. To use chopsticks properly, you hold a chopstick just like the way you hold a pen, but in the upper position, and then you slide another chopstick through the  circle with your thumb and forefinger into space between the middle finger and ring finger. You shouldn't move the later chopstick,  just the former. Then you can cut things, pick them up and loosen them.     There are things you must not do.   Stabbing food. I think this is one of the most common mistakes among foreigners. Don't stab food with chopsticks. Childre...

My Thoughts on Chopsticks (Not Finished)

Image
Hello, everyone! Are you enjoying eating? Today I am going to be featuring something related to eating.      Do you know eating utensils called chopsticks? For those who don't know them, I found a picture of it on google.     Yes. I'm just kidding. Of Course, you all know these utensils.     The other day, I found a topic about this on Quora, one of my favorite websites. What’s the point to eating food with chopsticks instead of knives and forks, apart from the cultural aspect?          Quora is a website where you can post questions and answers to them. This question has over 100 answers. It means many foreign (non-Asian) people got interested in this subject.     Imagine eating Japanese food (rice, noodles, etc.) without chopsticks. How would it be possible? It is pretty obvious to us that we need chopsticks. However, it is sometimes tough to explain why we use chopsticks instead of knives an...

My Favorite Movie

A movie that I really liked was called "The Truman Show".  It was made in 1998, and Jim Carrey starred. It was directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol. It won the Golden Globe Awards, The Hugo  Awards and the Saturn Award.      Truman Burbank was the star of the truman Show and he had lived in the Seahaven Island, which was actually a huge TV program set. The only person who didn't know that the town was a fake one was Truman, and the other people were actors. The life of Truman was broadcasted on TV 24 hours a day. It was not until 30 years have passed that Truman noticed something of the island was wrong and it was a fake one. After some attempts to get out of the island, he finally made it and the TV show finished. It was very interesting and fun to see Truman's attempts and how Truman's life events had been affected by things happened in the real world.     I think this movie is related to many people because everyon...

I Do Not Know How I Can Keep Motivated

Hello, everyone. These days, we have the third term-end exams. I guess you are working hard, and so am I.     However, on every exam week, I find it difficult to keep motivated to study and prepare for the exams. I always regret not studying enough even at the entrance exam, in which I couldn't get into the university I really wanted to due to lack of preparation.  After exams are over, I swear I will study hard in my hart, but It take me only a few days to stop it.     I really want to know how to keep studying... Tell me if you know. Thanksgiving Day

This year, Thanksgiving Day in the USA was November 26. I didn't know about thanksgiving day until these days, so I researched about this on the Internet.     How did thanksgiving start?  When Pilgrim Fathers came to Plymouth, they didn't know how to grow crops there and many pioneers died for its cold climate. Then a Native American tribe taught how to raise corn and supplied food. They got huge harvest the next year and they held banquet with the Native American tribe. This is said to be the origin of Thanksgiving.     In the USA, Thanksgiving Day is a holiday, more precisely, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and two following days are holidays. The US President issues Turkey Pardoning before Thanksgiving, where the President literally pardon two turkeys.     Native Americans think the day was "the beginning of genocide", where their land and knowledge has been taken. In addition, the stor...

Stereotypes of Japan

Today I listened to Hiroshima University's English Podcast to find the story of Stereotypes of Japan, and then, I found 8 difficult words. The 8 words are wired, when it comes to, creepy, feel guilty, pretend, tentacle, now that you mention it and stereotypes. In short, what they said in the podcast was like when it comes to Japanese stereotypes, they had thought Japanese eat horse meat and whales and wear kimonos until they came to Japan, and they knew about tentacle things. Now that you mention it, it might be unique to Japan, although I think that kind of thing is very creepy.  By the way, I have heard that many Western people think Japan should stop killing whales, and they say "How come you don't feel guilty about eating intelligent mammals like whales?". In my opinion, survey whaling is needed to preserve resources. I know of course who has killed a ton of whales for oil and now pretend to be conscientious. It's very wired to complain about what other p...
